Our History
New York Produce Inc. history began in 1984 as a produce distributor in New York City. Today, we are a multifaceted organization that provides Produce, Groceries, Dairy, and Frozen products from every corner of the world. For more than 30 years, we've brought consumers the quality of the homeland's brands they trust and cherish. Regardless of ethnicity and region of origin we maintain a high standard of customer service and respect for individual values and traditions.
Elio Valdivia left Cuba in 1961 looking for a better future for his family. After a brief stay in Spain, Elio arrived to the U.S. with one million dreams and no money. For years, Elio held several jobs, always making an unforgettable impression due to his acts of goodness and compassion to his fellow man. In June, 1984, Elio reached the dream he came looking for, he founded New York Produce: a two store shops at the Bronx Terminal Market. From selling tomatoes in 18 lbs. boxes to wholesale distributors in the metropolitan area, the operation gradually expanded to other products like plantains, bananas, and tropical fruits and vegetables.
By 1990, with the rapid growth of the business due to the incorporation of a new line of Mexican products, as well as carrying more fruits and vegetables, New York Produce Inc. took possession of the remaining stores of the building. Through the years, Elio made friends from all latitudes and his goal was always the same: to bring products from around the World to everyone living here so they could feel at home!
Today, we are a multifaceted organization that provides produce, groceries, dairy, and frozen products from every corner of the world, providing consumers with the quality of the brands they trust and cherish. Although technology has changed since those days in the Bronx, our commitment remains the same. Every year we take Elio's dream to a new level, while keeping families happy at their dinning tables.
